Comments on Water Supply Plan Sought

City officials want the public’s input on a document describing how the city will protect its future drinking water supply from droughts and unexpected shortages.

All Thousand Oaks residents receive their drinking water from imported sources, either from Northern California or the Colorado River through three wholesalers, said Carolyn Greene, management analyst in the Public Works Department.

The plan projects how the city would service customers if it faced a three-year drought and where drinking water will come from through 2020. One project underway by the Calleguas Municipal Water District will create an underground aquifer that could serve the area for three years, she said.

A public hearing on the plan will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday during the Thousand Oaks City Council meeting. Once adopted, the document will be sent to the State Department of Water Resources.
