A 79-year-old man was killed Friday when his car plowed into the back of another vehicle, then careened into a pole at a Laguna Hills intersection, authorities said.

Marvin Eisen of Laguna Woods was pronounced dead at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center about 35 minutes after the 5 p.m. crash, Orange County coroner’s officials said.

Witnesses told coroner’s investigators that they saw Eisen slump over inside his 1996 Buick Le Sabre moments before the accident, Deputy Coroner Joseph Luckey said.

“It’s possible that he had a heart attack,” Luckey said.

Eisen was driving south on Avenida de la Carlota, near Ridge Route Drive, when he rear-ended a 1995 Mitsubishi that had slowed while approaching a yellow light, Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Paddock said.

The Mitsubishi spun into the intersection. The vehicle’s driver, a 51-year-old Rancho Santa Margarita woman, was treated for minor injuries at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, he said.
