Students’ Cash Drive to Aid Quake Victims
- Share via
A group of Newbury Park High School students is collecting cash contributions on behalf of victims of the earthquake in El Salvador on Jan. 13.
The Latin American Students Assn. is accepting monetary help rather than food and clothing, because roads and airports in the Central American country have been damaged and access to disaster victims is limited.
All the money raised will be turned over to the American Red Cross, which is assisting with the relief effort, said Kathy Dichirico, an English as a second language teacher who advises the club.
The 7.6-magnitude quake left more than 45,000 people homeless, and the country is facing a growing refugee crisis.
Contributions may be sent to the students in care of the high school at 465 Reino Road, Newbury Park 91320.
For more information, call Dichirico at 498-3676.
