Storm to Bring Rain, Colder Temperatures

The latest winter storm could drop another inch of rain on Ventura County today before it moves out late tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

Bruce Rockwell, a meteorologist with the weather service, said the Pacific front causing the storm is a cold one that will bring with it chilly temperatures and additional snow above 3,000 feet by tonight. While it, too, is a cold system, Rockwell said it won’t have the power of the most recent storm that battered the county two weeks ago.

Homeowners along the county’s coast north of Ventura boarded up their homes and others sustained minor damage during that storm, which brought with it 20-foot waves as well as nearly 7 inches of rain to residents in some inland areas.

Highs today are expected to reach the mid-50s and drop into the 40s overnight. The strongest part of the storm should hit Ventura County’s coastal and inland areas just in time for the morning commute, Rockwell said, adding that showers will linger throughout the day.

Thursday should be partly cloudy but dry, with highs in the mid-60s before an even stronger storm makes its way inland for the weekend, he said.

“The Friday storm approaching could be stronger,” Rockwell said. “This one sort of will pave the way for it.”
