With his main band U.S. Bombs on hiatus, skate-punk hero Duane Peters is concentrating these days on his other group, the Hunns. The Huntington Beach resident is 40 but hasn’t lost a bit of his punk edge, which is crystal clear in his caustic view of Surf City as expressed in the self-explanatory “Nuke H.B.” from the Hunns’ latest album, “Unite.” Peters and company promise to stir things up at their show in Santa Ana.

If you like your comedy messy, there’s only one comic who delivers: Mr. “Sledge-O-Matic” himself, Gallagher. The hammer-wielding funny man has demolished everything from apples to oranges on stage. Not to mention lettuce, cheese, pound cakes, Big Macs and that finale favorite: watermelons. The initiated, who dare to sit in front--otherwise known as Death Row--have been to known to come prepared with plastic raincoats, goggles, sunglasses and umbrellas. The rain of produce and foodstuff sums up a comic whose goal is to make people “look more closely at this country and their lives to see the humor and absurdity of it all.”

The unspoiled natural beauty of California that drew hundreds of painters West in the 19th century can be viewed in “The California Scene” at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center. Impressionist paintings by artists such as William Wendt, Marion Wachtel, Maurice Braun, Edgar Payne and Sam Hyde Harris will be among the works. The painters documented the state’s mountains, valleys, beaches and rivers.
