Mahony to Celebrate Mass at School

* Cardinal Roger Mahony will celebrate a Mass at 10 a.m. today at Santa Clara High School in Oxnard. The service will mark the high school’s and Santa Clara Elementary School’s 100 years of Catholic education in the community. Mahony will also join attendants at a reception following the Mass. Conejo Youth Classical Performance

Ojai Valley Adventist Sermon Series

* Pastor David Smith of Ojai Valley Adventist Church will continue a sermon series today, “Your Most Radical Decision.” The fourth installment is titled “We Just Can’t Help Ourselves.”

* Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Thousand Oaks on Wednesday evening will hold the fourth installment of an eight-week course designed to introduce the basics of the Christian faith. Titled “ALPHA,” the weekly sessions include dinner, a short video presentation, small group meetings and question-and-answer sessions. Courses are held each Wednesday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The course work is designed to appeal to those who are curious to know why Jesus Christ is considered to be the Messiah.

* Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Sunday will present a dramatized exploration of “Bridget’s passage from ancient Irish/Celtic pagan fertility goddess of hearth to Roman Catholic patroness saint of chaste motherhood.” The program will be staged as a journalistic interview. The goddess will be portrayed by Yasmine Gruen, the saint by Jo Gerrard and the reporter by Theadora Davitt-Cornyn. The service will begin at 10 a.m.
