Northbound Grapevine Closed by Brush Fire
Interstate 5 was closed to northbound traffic at the Grapevine in Kern County because of a fast-moving brush fire that had burned about 25 acres late Monday night, fire official said.
No homes were evacuated and no structures were burned, said Tony Diffenbaugh, an engineer with the Kern County Fire Department. The cause of the fire, which began in the freeway median, was unknown.
“The fire’s still moving, but I don’t see it as a big threat,” Diffenbaugh said late Monday. “It’s burning between the northbound lanes of the freeway and a frontage road.”
