It Takes a Rookie to Beat the Giants

Alex Sanchez drove in his first major league runs with a two-out, two-run double in the 13th inning Sunday to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants before 41,780 fans at Pacific Bell Park, the largest crowd in the two-year-old park’s history.

The Brewers struck out 19 times and escaped three bases-loaded jams in the first three extra innings before Angel Echevarria singled and Mark Loretta doubled against Brian Boehringer.

Sanchez, who made his major league debut June 15, then doubled down the left-field line.

Milwaukee won two of three from the Giants. Barry Bonds, who leads the majors with 39 home runs, entered the All-Star break in a 13-game homerless drought, but he hit two doubles and drove in a run.

Felipe Crespo tied it for the Giants with a pinch-hit homer to right with two out in the bottom of the ninth, but the Giants couldn’t capitalize on any opportunities in extra innings.

With the bases loaded in each inning, Marvin Benard struck out to end the 10th, Armando Rios flied out in the 11th, and Eric Davis grounded into a double play in the 12th.
