A woman and a 5-year-old child who may have been intentionally splashed with gasoline were being treated for burns after a fire Monday night in their Granada Hills apartment, fire officials said.

The boy was airlifted to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles, where he was listed in critical condition with third-degree burns over 50% of his body, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to the fire in the 16000 block of San Fernando Mission Road at 10:24 p.m. and found the woman and the child while fighting the fire.

The woman had been splashed with gasoline but investigators had not determined whether it was done intentionally, Humphrey said. She was in fair condition with minor burns.
