We enjoyed Diane Pucin’s commentary regarding NBC and their tape delays. She forgot to also mention the need for devotees to wear soundproof earplugs when seeing well-meaning friends or co-workers.
However, the most outrageous thing is that NBC uses the tape delay as an opportunity to pad the time of an event so they can insert more commercials. During the Wimbledon men’s semifinal Friday, we frequently and carefully recorded the elapsed time from the time-of-day clock at Wimbledon vs. the actual elapsed time. By the time the nearly four-hour match was over, NBC had managed to insert almost 30 extra minutes of commercials.
This is truly a new high in deceit, even for television.
