Two cousins, ages 6 and 8, died after they were pulled from a backyard swimming pool in Baldwin Hills, authorities said Monday.

The boys were in full cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived Sunday evening, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. Tamar Holloway, 8, of Signal Hill, died at Daniel Freeman Hospital in Inglewood on Sunday night.

Dana Pool, 6, of Los Angeles, was taken to Brotman Medical Center in Culver City, then transferred to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, where he died.

The boys were at the home for a family party, said Police Officer Hayley Purece. The children were playing in the pool earlier in the day with flotation vests on, and then decided to play inside, Purece said. “After a brief period, [the 8-year-old’s mother] did not see the two playing and went to check on them. When they did not appear to be inside, she went to the outside pool area and saw the two children at the bottom of the pool.”

The boys were not wearing the flotation vests when they were found, Purece said.
