Carjacking Suspect Fatally Shot by Police
San Bernardino Police fatally shot a carjacking suspect Monday after a standoff in which the man allegedly fired at officers, authorities said.
Around 3 p.m., the man, whose name was not released, shot a driver in the leg and stole his car near 4th and E streets, San Bernardino Police Sgt. Gerald Jones said.
After a high-speed chase, the suspect crashed the car on Highland Avenue, Jones said. He tried unsuccessfully to steal other cars, then refused to surrender, eventually firing a rifle at the officers, who returned fire, Jones said.
The suspect died at a hospital.
