California Lightweight Title Is on the Line

Yoni Vargas of Mexicali, Mexico, defends his California lightweight title tonight at the Arrowhead Pond in a 10-round match against Orlando Villaflor (18-0-1, 14 knockouts) of the Philippines.
Vargas (20-2, 12) has won eight consecutive fights and is the North American Boxing Organization’s third-ranked lightweight. He hasn’t lost since May 1999, when he twisted an ankle and was unable to continue.
The undercard features super-middleweight Enrique Ornelas (10-0, 6) of La Habra against Carl Cockerham (10-7, 4) of Las Vegas. In a heavyweight bout, Javier Mora of Westminster (9-0, 9) faces Keith Govan of Phoenix (6-3, 3). The undercard begins at 7:30.
