4 Die When Car Crosses Into Oncoming Traffic
Four young men were killed when their vehicle crossed over the center divide into oncoming traffic and was hit by a pickup truck, police said Sunday.
The victims were traveling eastbound on Mission Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when their vehicle crossed into the westbound lanes and was struck by the pickup, Officer Steve Tiplitsky said.
Authorities identified the driver of the car as Noe Gonzalez, 17, and his two passengers as Jaime Chavez, 18, and Pedro Rodriguez Maldonado, 19--all from Oceanside. The name of the fourth fatality was not released.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 52-year-old man, and his 19-year-old passenger were flown to Scripps Memorial-La Jolla Medical Center in San Diego, where they were listed in serious condition, police said.
Tiplitsky said the crash remains under investigation.
