Wanted: Female, No Car Insurance Required

Share

I was recently hit from the rear by an uninsured driver and pushed into the car in front of me. It was a hard hit, but none of the vehicles involved were damaged extensively. Also, there were no apparent injuries. A motor officer from the LAPD arrived on the scene within a few minutes, and we all pulled over to exchange driver information. When the officer found out that the driver who hit me was uninsured, he told her that that was wrong, and that she should get insurance.

No citations issued, no cars impounded, nothing. I called the traffic division of the Van Nuys police station and was told that in the above circumstances, a citation was “at the officer’s discretion.” I guess she was good-looking enough to have him let her off. Had that been some working stiff trying to make ends meet, it would have surely ended with a ticket and a towed vehicle. So, dress nice, smile a lot and forget the insurance.
