Surf Beach Parcel Closed to Protect Nesting Area
From Times Wire Reports
The Air Force has closed a half-mile stretch of Surf Beach until Friday so officials can devise new measures to keep people out of threatened western snowy plover nesting areas.
The temporary closure follows six trespassing violations recorded at Surf Beach last weekend.
Once the number of violations reaches 25, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service would require the Air Force to close all access until Oct. 1--when the shorebird’s nesting season ends.
