Mariners Roll Past Twins Again

Ichiro Suzuki went three for four with two runs batted in and a stolen base to lead the Seattle Mariners to their seventh consecutive victory over the Minnesota Twins, 5-1, Saturday in Seattle.

The Twins, who are 1-7 against Seattle this season, dropped out of a tie for first with the Cleveland Indians in the American League Central.

“They are on a roll. We can’t stop them,” Twin Manager Tom Kelly said.

Bret Boone drove in two runs for the Mariners (75-29), who moved a season-high 46 games over .500.

Mariner starter Jamie Moyer (11-5) gave up one run and five hits in 6 1/3 innings, facing the minimum 15 batters through five innings.

Arthur Rhodes relieved with runners on second and third and one out in the seventh and got out of the jam by striking out David Ortiz and Brian Buchanan.

Jeff Nelson gave up one hit in the ninth. Rhodes and Nelson gave up one hit over 2 2/3 innings, striking out six.

In Moyer’s last three starts, he has surrendered only 16 hits and three runs over 21 innings for a 1.29 earned-run average.

Brad Radke (10-8) lost his fourth in a row, giving up five runs on 10 hits in six innings.

Cleveland 6-2, Detroit 4-4--Jeff Weaver pitched seven strong innings, giving up two runs on five hits, to help the Tigers end a seven-game losing streak in the second game of a day-night doubleheader at Detroit.

Danny Patterson pitched the eighth, and Matt Anderson worked a perfect ninth for his 12th save in 13 chances.

Juan Encarnacion tripled twice and scored two runs and Shane Halter had two RBIs for the Tigers.

In the first game, Roberto Alomar’s tiebreaking, two-run double and Juan Gonzalez’s 27th home run lifted the Indians to a victory.

Danys Baez (1-0) pitched a scoreless seventh inning. John Rocker worked a perfect eighth, and Bob Wickman gave up an RBI single to Robert Fick in the ninth before finishing for his 19th save.

Chicago 3, Boston 1--Carlos Lee had two hits, including a tiebreaking RBI triple in the seventh off Tim Wakefield, for the White Sox at Boston. The Red Sox fell 3 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East.

Chicago starter Mark Buehrle (8-6) gave up one run and five hits in 7 1/3 innings and Keith Foulke got four outs for his 24th save in 26 chances.

Kansas City 9, Oakland 3--Chad Durbin pitched a six-hitter for his first career complete game and Carlos Beltran, who had three hits and two RBIs, hit an RBI double to spark a six-run seventh for the Royals at Oakland.

Tim Hudson (12-6) gave up seven runs, six earned, on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. It was his first loss since June 22 against Texas.

Tampa Bay 7, Texas 3--Toby Hall hit a tiebreaking RBI single in a four-run 10th inning at Arlington, Texas, to end the Rangers’ season-high five-game winning streak.

Texas scored twice in the ninth to send the game into extra innings.

Nick Bierbrodt, acquired in a trade from Arizona on Wednesday, gave up one run and four hits in six innings but got no decision for Tampa Bay.
