Hot Dogs in Weenie Lineup

Current rock leaders Blink-182 and Staind and old-guard mainstays Jane’s Addiction and the Cult will anchor the lineup of the 9th annual KROQ-FM Weenie Roast on June 23, returning to its traditional home at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine after moving to massive Edison International Field in Anaheim last year. Also on the main-stage bill, which is being announced by KROQ (106.7) today, are Crazy Town, Coldplay, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Papa Roach and 311. A punk-oriented side stage will feature Pennywise, the Living End, Sum 41 and New Found Glory. The station will announce ticket information Monday.

Sad Songs (Say So Much)

Pop star Elton John has failed in a multimillion-dollar legal challenge to reopen a case against his accountants over touring costs. London High Court Judge Justice Ferris, who in April threw out the 54-year-old singer-pianist’s $19.5-million claim against his accountants, on Wednesday rejected a bid to appeal the decision. John, who is known for his extravagant lifestyle, had earlier sued PricewaterhouseCoopers and his management company for charging him for overseas tour expenses. On Tuesday, John garnered nearly $2.8 million from an auction of his 20 classic cars. London auction house Christie’s insisted that John sold the cars for practical reasons.

TELEVISION

Substance Amid the Swimsuits

The Miss America Pageant is replacing its longtime television producer in a move aimed at creating a telecast with more substance, according to chief executive officer Robert Renneisen Jr. Bob Bain, who has produced the Billboard Music Awards and other awards shows, will succeed Jeff Margolis, the pageant’s producer since 1993. Margolis said he and executives at ABC-TV, which broadcasts the show, were surprised by the decision. The move continues a management shake-up by Renneisen, who was hired 15 months ago and has restructured the Miss America Organization. “We want to move it away from the beauty pageant kind of show and focus a little more on the deeper aspects of the competition, like the platform issue, the interview, the scholastic part of it,” Renneisen said. The swimsuit competition, however, will remain. The show will air Sept. 22.
