2 Arrested After Shots Fired in Neighborhood

Two men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after driving through a residential neighborhood near Ventura and allegedly firing shots at several people and passing cars, Ventura police said Sunday.

No one was injured in the Saturday night incident, but police said shots struck three unoccupied cars and a house in the 1500 block of Saticoy Avenue in Cabrillo Village.

Juan Daniel Mendez, 23, and Frank Briseno, 19, both of Ventura, were arrested about 10:30 p.m. after Ventura County sheriff’s deputies spotted them driving in a nearby neighborhood where they were allegedly firing more shots.

Witnesses in Cabrillo Village said one man in the car shouted gang slogans before shooting. Both men were being held Sunday night in lieu of $500,000 bail.
