Lakers Brought Unity to Divided Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Lakers were able to do something no one else could do. It was even more spectacular than the postseason 15-1 run and winning all eight games on the road. They were able to accomplish the nearly impossible--uniting the often greatly divided city of Los Angeles. After the divisive mayoral race, I wondered if there was any way L.A. could recover. Then the purple and gold banners appeared, flapping from multitudes of cars. People honked at each other, smiling and giving a thumbs-up. Conversations took place in the supermarkets, on the streets and in the malls. Everyone wanted to talk about his or her hopes that these ballplayers would bring another championship to L.A.

The Los Angeles fans were united by a purple and gold heart. Thank you, Lakers. If only you played 12 months a year

I think it is great that the city hosts a parade for the Lakers. I think it would be a greater place if the Lakers hosted a parade for schools and their students who excelled academically. I think the city is big enough for both.
