A Cappella Concert

The Persuasions have been singing 38 years and still don’t have a band. The New York-based a cappella singing group includes doo-wop, blues, gospel and pop songs in its repertoire. Besides recording more than a dozen albums since 1968, the group has recorded and performed background vocals with Stevie Wonder, Phoebe Snow, Don McLean, Joni Mitchell and many others. They were also featured in Spike Lee’s 1990 TV special, “Do It a Cappella.”* The Persuasions, plus Ronnie and the Classics, perform Sunday, 5:30 p.m. at Warner Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills, (818) 704-1358. Choral Concert

The Burbank Chorale, the oldest performing arts organization in the San Fernando Valley, will present two performances of “Choral Classics at the Movies” this weekend. The show, which marks the chorale’s 81st anniversary, will include music by Mozart, Barber, Bernstein and the Beatles.

Air Show

The Van Nuys Airport Aviation Expo 2001 will feature advanced and vintage aircraft, flyovers, sky-divers, demonstrations and live music this weekend in Van Nuys. F-117A Stealth Fighter and F/A-18 Hornet flyovers are planned for both days. On display will be such advanced military aircraft as the B-52 Bomber, the B-1B Lancer Bomber, the F-14 Tomcat and the AV-8B Harrier as well as vintage aircraft like the World War II-era B-29 Superfortress and the B-24 Liberator. The U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team and hang glider Dan Buchanan will also perform both days.
