Charron Rejoins Duck Staff

Guy Charron is not leaving the Mighty Ducks after all.

More than two months after he was not retained as the team’s coach, Charron decided to accept new Coach Bryan Murray’s offer to become an assistant.

“I talked to him three or four times,” Murray said Wednesday of Charron. “No question, the first time I talked to him he sounded frustrated about what happened to him. We talked some more and I think he understands now that he’ll be important to the team. The players all respect him and like him.”

Charron assumed the head coaching job when Craig Hartsburg was fired Dec. 14 and compiled a 14-26-7-2 record. Pierre Gauthier, team president and general manager, hired Murray to replace Charron on May 25.

“I just needed some time to sort everything out,” Charron said. “A lot of it [staying with the Ducks] has to do with Bryan coming on board. I’m excited.”

Murray expects to hire a second assistant after this weekend’s NHL entry draft in Sunrise, Fla. It will not be Terry Simpson, a Duck assistant coach last season.
