Streaking Comets Earn Eighth Straight Victory

Tina Thompson and Janeth Arcain each scored 22 points as the Comets extended their winning streak to eight games with a 67-57 victory over the Portland Fire before 9,389 on Sunday at Houston.

Houston’s only loss of the season came in its season opener against the Sparks.

Arcain scored 16 points in the second half, including six in an 8-0 run to finish the game after Portland (6-3) had closed within 59-57.

“This just feels good,” Arcain said. “We beat a tough team tonight. I think that shows just how good we can be.”

Jackie Stiles led Portland with 17 points.

Sacramento 85, Charlotte 82--Yolanda Griffith had 23 points and 16 rebounds as the Monarchs (6-6) prevailed in overtime before 4,077 at Charlotte, N.C., extending the Sting’s losing streak to a franchise-record seven games. Charlotte fell to 1-10.

Cleveland 54, Miami 35--Chasity Melvin scored 11 points and Merlakia Jones added 10 as the Rockers (8-3) ran their winning streak to five in a row with a victory over the Sol (5-5) before 7,408 at Miami.
