Scholarships Offered in Youth Pilot Project

Chapman University is home to a new pilot art program that provides Orange County high school students with college-level fine-arts training.

For the first time in Orange County, the Ryman Program for Young Artists offers scholarships worth as much as $1,000 to aspiring artists to attend the classes for free. The scholarships offset the cost of instruction, public transportation, live costumed models, guest artists, materials and field trips.

The 12-week program, taught by Brenda Regier, is held at the university from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays and is limited to 15 students.

The sessions, which began in February and end May 10, are available every spring and fall and are designed to augment the students’ studies, in addition to their regular high school course work. Year-end exhibitions will be held in the university’s gallery.
