Man Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run
A driver was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly hit and killed a pedestrian and fled the scene, Huntington Beach police said.
Witnesses to the accident followed Thai Van Dang, 46, of Huntington Beach until police arrived. He was being held at the Huntington Beach Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. Bail was set at $10,000.
Dang was driving east on Warner Avenue near Oak Street about 10:20 a.m. when his 1991 Dodge Caravan hit Antonio Tapia, 75, of Huntington Beach, who was crossing the street, Lt. Luis Ochoa said.
Police said Tapia was not in a marked crosswalk when he was hit. He suffered massive head injuries and died at the scene, Ochoa said.
