Solano Beach Santa Fe Christian 53, Montclair Prep 41--Eshaya Murphy of the Mounties finally met an opponent who could score more than her.

Brandi Collato, the all-time leading scorer in San Diego County, finished with 36 points and the Eagles (23-9) handed the Mounties (27-1) their first loss in a Southern Regional playoff game at Montclair Prep.

Collato, who has committed to the University of San Diego, scored 26 points in the first half when Santa Fe Christian opened an insurmountable 38-20 lead.

“She’s just a pure shooter,” said Coach Bob Webb of Montclair Prep. “I really felt she could get her 30 and it still wouldn’t hurt us.”

Unfortunately for the Mounties, they struggled offensively as much as they have all season.

Murphy finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds and teammate Jasmine Wesley had 14 points.

Theodora Holmes was the only other player who scored for the Mounties with a basket in the fourth quarter. They drew no closer than 16 points in the period.

“We had some scouting reports and we knew they had two really good players,” Coach Paul Clark of Santa Fe Christian said. “We felt we would win if we defended them well. I thought we did a good job.”
