Hollywood Park Is Seeking a New Track Announcer

A decision is expected soon on the new track announcer at Hollywood Park for its spring-summer meet starting April 20.

Chris Kotulak was fired after one shaky year. He had replaced Michael Wrona, who left to become the track announcer at Lone Star Park in Texas.

“We decided a change was necessary,” Hollywood Park President Rick Baedeker said. “The decision was made about three weeks ago.

“We have offered Chris other work here. We thought his television work was outstanding and we could use a backup announcer. He has to decide what’s best for him.”

Vic Stauffer, who is calling the races at Gulfstream Park in Florida, was among those considered for the Hollywood Park job last year after Wrona left and is thought by some to be the leading candidate to replace Kotulak.

“I heard from a couple of announcers [Tuesday] who are interested and we still have the list of candidates from a year ago,” Baedeker said. “We hope to make an announcement within the next week.”
