Pepperdine Falls Short of Long Beach, 4-0

Jeff Jones hit a two-run single and Bobby Crosby followed with a two-run double to give Long Beach State a 4-0 victory over Pepperdine in the 10th inning of a nonconference game at Malibu.
Greg Ramirez pitched nine innings for the Waves (12-4). He struck out three, walked one and gave up four hits.
Eric Valenzuela (1-1) came on in relief in the 10th inning and walked the first batter. After an error and intentional walk, Jones delivered a hit through a drawn-in infield. Crosby doubled two batters later.
Long Beach State (7-6) used six pitchers, who gave up four hits and stranded 12 baserunners. Jeff Baumback (1-0) came on in the eighth for his first appearance this season and went 1 1/3 innings.
Josh Alliston pitched the 10th inning for the 49ers.
Glendale 6, Pierce 4--Evan Shahak hit a two-run home run in the fourth and Matt Friedrichsen hit a two-run homer in the seventh and the Vaqueros won a Western State Conference South Division game at Stengel Field in Glendale.
Scott Weber (3-0) allowed six hits and one earned run in 7 1/3 innings for Glendale. He struck out one and walked three.
WOMEN’S SOFTBALL
Santa Barbara 3, Valley 1--Melissa Rodriguez pitched a four-hitter with three strikeouts, but it wasn’t enough for the Monarchs in a WSC interdivisional game at Valley.
Blair Blakeley had two hits, including a double, for Valley.
GIRLS’ SOFTBALL
Crescenta Valley 3, Burbank 0--Meredith Cervenka pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Falcons (2-0) in a nonleague victory at La Crescenta Montrose Park.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Kennedy 4, Birmingham 3--Johnny Bravo and Muhammad Zaman won two sets to spark a doubles sweep for the Golden Cougars at Kennedy.
Camarillo 12, San Marcos 6--Jason Mossembekker swept three sets at No. 2 singles for the Scorpions (2-1) in a nonleague victory at Camarillo.
Jason Schecter and Justin Tong won two of three sets at No. 1 doubles for Camarillo.
BOYS’ GOLF
Simi Valley 369, Newbury Park 425--Alan Johnson shot two-under-par 69 to help the Pioneers win at Simi Hills Golf Course.
