Fatigue Not on Potvin’s Mind

Goaltender Felix Potvin, who has started nine consecutive games since the Kings acquired him from Vancouver Feb. 15, has been too busy to feel fatigued.

“Basically, this time of year, all you’ve got to think about is winning games,” said Potvin, who made 20 saves in the Kings’ 4-1 victory over the Nashville Predators on Thursday.

“We’ve been doing pretty good so far, but we can’t afford to be satisfied. Andy [Murray, the Kings’ coach] has done a good job resting me between games. I think the team has been playing with a lot of energy. For us, every game is like a playoff game. I enjoy that. Every game means a lot.”

Potvin has benefited from the Kings’ ability to limit opponents’ shots. Unlike the days when Kelly Hrudey faced 55 shots a game, the Kings this season are averaging fewer than 27 shots against them.

Stephane Fiset made 36 saves in leading Lowell (Mass.) of the American Hockey League to a 3-2 victory over Cincinnati on Wednesday in his first game since he sprained his left knee Dec. 22. Murray said Fiset will play again today and Saturday, if his knee is sound.

If Fiset is fit, General Manager Dave Taylor will have three days before the deadline to trade one of his three goalies. Jamie Storr is the other part of the equation.

However, Murray said the Kings might keep all three for the rest of the season. “I think if Dave felt there was a package out there that would make us a better team, he would do it,” Murray said. “I think you can [make the situation work]. One thing you have is the relationship between all three goalies. They like each other. And we don’t have a situation where we’ve got 50 or 60 games to play. One guy may play them all.”
