El Dorado Wins With Big Inning

El Dorado had five hits and three doubles in a five-run second inning that carried the Golden Hawks to a 9-4 victory over top-ranked Villa Park in the semifinals of the Loara baseball tournament Thursday at Villa Park.

Brett Carlin, Jeff Flaig and Brian Jackson each had a double in the second inning for El Dorado (4-0), which sent nine batters to the plate.

Flaig also pitched five innings, recording his second victory.

Center fielder J.D. McCauley had a home run in the fifth inning and finished three for three.

Ricky Sims had a home run for Villa Park (3-1).

In other tournament games:

Irvine 3, No. 9 Fountain Valley 2--Chad Hazlett scored the winning run from second base on an errant pickoff throw for visiting Irvine (3-1) in the consolation game. Travis Otott squeezed in a run in the first inning for the Vaqueros.

No. 10 Loara 5, Pacifica 4--Paul Pratali had two doubles and three RBIs to lead Loara (1-3) to its first victory of the season in a consolation game.

Aliso Niguel 2, El Toro 0--Left-hander Michael Potter pitched a three-hit shutout with 16 strikeouts.

Santa Ana 6, Los Amigos 6 (darkness, Santa Ana advances on total bases, 40-39)--Henry Buenrostro struck out four in two innings for Santa Ana.

Gerado Mercado homered for Los Amigos.

In the Costa Mesa/Foothill tournament:

Costa Mesa 10, Ocean View 6--Carlos Franco had two doubles, three runs and two RBIs and pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to earn the save for Costa Mesa.

Jeremiah Haubrick (2-0) got the win in relief for the Mustangs (3-0).

Foothill 17, Magnolia 0--Host Foothill (2-1) scored 11 runs in the fourth inning. Bob Hamer was two for three with four runs batted in and Derek Fitch was three for three with three runs.

Mater Dei 4, Calvary Chapel 3 (8)--Daniel Perales’ one-out home run in the eighth inning won it for host Mater Dei (3-0), which advanced to the tournament championship game Saturday.

In the Newport Elks tournament:

No. 3 Capistrano Valley 2, Corona del Mar 1--Adam Sorgi hit a game-winning home run in the fifth inning for visiting Capistrano Valley (3-0).

In the North Orange County tournament:

Esperanza 8, Valencia 2--Robert Nesbitt had two home runs and three RBIs for Esperanza (3-1) in a consolation game.
