Coldplay Airplay

Richard Cromelin credits radio play in the Northwest and KROQ-FM (106.7) with launching Coldplay’s radio success in the States (“Play It as It Feels,” March 4).

“Parachutes” officially entered KCRW-FM’s (89.9) library in August--we were the first station to give the band regular play in the months leading up to the release of its CD. When Coldplay came to town in December for only 36 hours, it played its U.S. radio debut live performance in KCRW’s studios for “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” followed by the KROQ Christmas show that night. That performance, at https://www.kcrw.com, has received more hits than any other archived music program since we posted it on Dec. 20.

KCRW’s early support was crucial to the kind of attention the band later received from commercial radio around the country.
