Three people were injured, one critically, when two cars collided about noon Tuesday in Northridge, police said.

Gary Reyna, 36, was driving north on Louise Avenue when his car swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a pickup truck, police said.

He was trying to avoid a car stopped in his lane that was waiting to make a left turn onto Stagg Street, police said.

“It was too late when he saw the vehicle stopped,” said Officer Dago Espino of the Valley Traffic Division. “He went into the wrong side of the roadway.”

The driver of the pickup, Brion Pelzer, 55, was listed in critical condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center with head trauma. His passenger, Richard Campbell, 28, was in stable condition with a broken arm, according to hospital officials.

Reyna was treated for a fractured hand and released from Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, according to a hospital spokesman.
