Family Man: I happen to be a newlywed and I’m in Sacramento during the week. So Friday night belongs to my wife, Janice. That’s our date night. We usually will start off trying to find an interesting restaurant. We both really like sushi, so we might go to Hama Sushi or Matsuhisa, or we look for a new place. And then we go to a movie or spend a quiet evening home alone.

Gotta Go: We’ll go to the movies at some point, maybe catch a matinee at the Magic Johnson Theaters at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Shopping Center or a theater in the Marina. I like to see everything. I’m a movie junkie--my wife less so. We see foreign films and the blockbuster of the day.

Home-building: Since we’re setting up house, we’ve been shopping for household items and furniture. My wife moved here from Washington, D.C., so I’m also trying to expose her to all the different shopping places. We’ll go to the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica or other places we can walk around, like the Leimert Park shopping area or Montana Avenue. We also will sometimes go to a museum, such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art or the Getty.

Cultural: Saturday we might have dinner with another couple, and we try to do cultural things--theater and an occasional concert at the Greek Theatre or Universal Amphitheatre. I was an agent at the William Morris Agency before I got into politics, so we try to see as many of the top performers as we have time to.

Best Brunches: Sunday we sometimes go to church and to our favorite, Pann’s, on the corner of La Cienega and La Tijera. That’s our little local place that we’re in love with. We go for the waffles. If we don’t go there, we might drive to Malibu and have brunch at Geoffrey’s on PCH, where you sit right on the water. It’s really good, especially their salmon eggs benedict.
