POSITION BY POSITION

* Forward: Matt Barnes will get some help, but he will primarily be guarding Duke’s Shane Battier. The Bruins’ strategy will be to keep Battier out of the paint and make him beat them with his outside shooting. Jason Kapono regained his shooting touch to some degree against Utah State and could get hot against the Blue Devils, particularly in a fast-paced game.

* Center: Dan Gadzuric showed his versatility in the first two games, especially in pressing situations. He’s also tough to guard. Carlos Boozer returns from a broken foot and the Blue Devils will rely on him for rebounds and defense.

* Guard: Jason Williams, one of the nation’s best players, is the most physical point guard the Bruins have faced. He’s extremely dangerous from behind the arc and is always looking to penetrate. He’s a spectacular passer too. Earl Watson makes the majority of his steals after a player has picked up his dribble. Watson is quick and tough, but this will be a challenging matchup for him.

* Coaching: Under Mike Krzyzewski, Duke has gone 52-14 in the tournament, the highest winning percentage (.788) of any active coach. Steve Lavin has reached the Sweet 16 four times in five seasons.

* The Edge: Duke. The Bruins have a chance, especially if the game turns into a playground battle. But they need to loosen up with their 1-4 offense, and go away from it if necessary.
