Robbers Shoot Bicyclist, Detain Jogger on Santa Clarita Trail
Two men shot and robbed a bicyclist and robbed a jogger on a bike path, authorities said Tuesday.
The robberies occurred about 9:30 p.m. Monday at the South Fork Trail, south of Magic Mountain Parkway, said Det. Ignacio Somoano of the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Santa Clarita station.
When the bicyclist resisted being grabbed by one of the robbers the other robber shot him once in the upper torso with a handgun, Somoano said.
The victim, a 28-year-old Newhall man, was treated at an area hospital and released, Somoano said. The robbers took his bicycle, money and other items, police said.
The robbers also ordered a 15-year-old Valencia boy who was jogging to lie on the ground at gunpoint and took his portable compact disc player, Somoano said. The boy was not hurt.
Anyone with information should call the Santa Clarita station at (661) 255-1121, Ext. 5143.
