Business and Pleasure: My ideal Friday would be a concert in the Doheny Mansion, a gorgeous room of marble and topped by a Tiffany glass dome. You’re there listening to the best musicians in the world play only an arm’s length from you. Saturday very often we have children’s concerts in a museum. They are a lot of fun because we try to match that program with what special exhibition is at the museum, so it’s a mixture of music, storytelling and sometimes dancing and drumming. Then we all go off and look at the exhibit. If I have a third concert on Sunday, I’m either in a private home, in an architectural landmark where you feel like a guest in this beautiful home, or I could be listening to a jazz concert in a sleek setting, like the perfume hall at the old Bullocks Wilshire building, now the Southwestern University Law Library. Or in a vaulted Gothic church listening to choral music.

Enjoying Home: I live in Santa Monica, and I walk down to Palisades Park, which is the most beautiful walk in the world. That restores my soul. It can be completely different every day depending on the weather. Or I’ll go to Montana Avenue, which is like a town square. I almost always run into someone I know there. I’ll stop into what I call the three M’s--Marmalade, Madeleine’s and Le Marmiton.

Venetian Culture: Another thing is to go down to Venice to Abbot Kinney, where there are some wonderful restaurants: Joe’s, Lilly’s and Hal’s Bar & Grill. Lilly’s has my favorite desert, ile flotant--egg whites that are baked on top of a creme anglaise. I like to go to a meal before a show at the Pacific Resident Theatre, which is theater as good as you’ll find anywhere.
