More than a week on the road and 3,000 miles from home, two teams that have East Coast campuses a mere 22 minutes apart meet this afternoon at the Arrowhead Pond.

It’s the first time in seven years that Georgetown and Maryland have played.

“I know it’s been a nightmare for our travel agent,” Esherick, a Georgetown graduate, said. “Eventually I’d like to play Maryland [at home] before I stop coaching.”

Terrapin Coach Gary Williams, a Maryland alum, would also like to see a home game with Georgetown, but not at the expense of adding to an already powerful schedule.

Most of the players on both teams grew up wanting to attend one of the schools and they play in the same summer league against one another.

“It’s too bad we had to go 3,000 miles away to play,” said Maryland guard Juan Dixon, who will square off against childhood friend Kevin Braswell for the first time in a college game.
