Walter Frederick Aceves; Defense Technician

Walter Frederick Aceves, an electrical technician who worked on numerous projects for the Department of Defense, died Monday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. He was 67.

Aceves spent 30 years working at Point Mugu and Port Hueneme bases, where his work included designing remote control target boats. He also enjoyed building remote-controlled cars, airplanes and boats for his family.

He served in the Marines during the Korean War and trained soldiers for the Iranian military under the last shah.

Aceves was born in Los Angeles but spent most of his life in Oxnard. He is survived by his sister, Marie Dolores McNulty, three nieces and a great-nephew.

Visitation will be at Payton Mortuary at 426 W. 5th St. in Oxnard from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at Santa Clara Catholic Church, 323 South E St., in Oxnard. Burial will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery.
