Fire Damages Two Businesses
Fire whipped through a Westminster meat market and adjoining smoke shop late Friday, causing about $200,000 in damage, the Orange County Fire Authority said.
The fire broke out about 8:50 p.m. at the rear of Superior Meat Market, at 15639 Brookhurst St. north of McFadden Avenue, Fire Capt. Kirk Summers said. The fire spread to the attic and next door to the Smoke Signal, he said.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 15 minutes, but there was extensive damage to the rear of the meat market and smoke and water damage to both stores, Summers said,
“In addition to the structural damage at the back of the meat market, all of their stock will be a complete loss because of health issues,” Summers said. “Next door at the smoke shop, they’ll have health department issues too, as well as smoke and water damage.”
About 35 firefighters from the Fire Authority and the Santa Ana Fire Department responded, Summers said. The cause of the fire remained under investigation, he said.
