Two pedestrians died over the weekend in traffic accidents in Palmdale and Valley Glen, authorities said.

A Quartz Hill man walking along 25th Street East south of Arnold Drive was killed by a hit-and-run driver about 11 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Ed Raulston of the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Palmdale station. Witnesses said a white, four-door Honda sedan fled the area.

The victim, whose identity was withheld pending notification of his family, was walking along the unlighted roadway with a companion after both men had been drinking, authorities said. Investigators are looking into whether one or both of them were in the roadway when the victim was hit by the car.

On Sunday morning in Valley Glen, Nasrollah Rezaie, 77, was killed when a 1987 Sterling sedan ran off the road and struck him as he stood on a sidewalk near a bus stop in the 4800 block of Sunnyslope Avenue near Riverside Drive, police said.

The driver, Edward Brown, 23, of Panorama City, told police his car’s brakes failed, said Officer Dan Henry of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

Nasrollah of Valley Village was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was pronounced dead an hour after the 7:15 a.m. accident, Henry said.

Brown was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and is being held in Van Nuys Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
