Braves Put Millwood on 15-Day Disabled List
Kevin Millwood, who pitched only two innings in his last start before coming out because of a stiff right shoulder, was put on the 15-day disabled list by the Atlanta Braves.
An MRI showed that Millwood has an inflamed labrum, requiring at least two weeks of rest.
Millwood finished third in the 1999 NL Cy Young Award voting but has struggled since then. He is 1-3 with a 4.93 ERA this season.
“I just didn’t have anything on the ball,” Millwood said. “I try to throw it as hard as I can and it just doesn’t come out.”
The labrum is a rim of soft tissue that acts as sort of a gasket in the socket of the shoulder.

Houston pitcher Jose Lima was suspended five games and fined by the commissioner’s office for hitting the Mets’ Jay Payton with a pitch in a game last week. The players’ association appealed, delaying the start of any penalty until after a hearing.
