Musician’s Son Dies After Tent Falls Into Pool
The 9-year-old son of musician David Johnstone, a guitarist for Elton John, drowned Monday evening when a small tent he was playing in fell into the family’s swimming pool in Calabasas, authorities said.
Johnstone was in Chicago on tour with John when the drowning occurred at the family home, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Pena said. The musician and his wife have since returned home.
Oliver Johnstone was discovered by his caretaker inside the tent shortly after he fell into the pool about 6:45 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Pena. The caretaker and neighbors performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before paramedics arrived at the home in the 3800 block of Mountain Shadows Road. The boy was taken to West Hills Medical Center, where he died.
“He was playing by the pool and apparently he was an excellent swimmer,” said Sheriff’s Det. Diane Harris.
