Miami Heat guard Eddie Jones underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a shoulder injury that sidelined him for 15 games late in the season.

Doctors repaired Jones’ labrium in an operation that lasted nearly two hours. His shoulder will be in a sling for two to three weeks, and he’ll then begin rehabilitation. He is expected to be available for the preseason in October.

Jones, the Heat’s leading scorer, played in the final six regular-season games and the playoffs.

Coming off his worst game of the season, Baron Davis blamed himself for the Charlotte Hornets being down 2-0 in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinals series against the Milwaukee Bucks.

“I feel like if I played better we could have won,” said Davis, who scored four points while missing his four shots from the field.

Meanwhile, the Hornets were trying to explain a bizarre second-half technical foul called against them for having only four men on the court after Derrick Coleman walked off because of a strained lower back.

Coleman is doubtful for tonight’s Game 3 because of the injury.

“That was pretty foreign to me,” said Hornet Coach Paul Silas, who said there was still confusion as to whether Coleman told anyone he was leaving.

In the first significant personnel switch under new Coach Doug Collins, the Washington Wizards hired Steven Stricker as trainer. . . . Sam Vincent, who played on the Boston Celtics’ championship team in 1986, was hired as coach of the Mobile (Ala.) team in the National Basketball Development League.
