Man Begins 4-Year Term in Child Abuse Case
Loren Bess, a Norco retiree whose 6-year-old granddaughter was discovered chained to a bedpost wearing a diaper and unable to speak, has begun a four-year prison term, a Riverside County prosecutor said.
Bess, 77, was sentenced after pleading guilty to child endangerment, said prosecutor Robert Spira.
Sheriff’s deputies found the girl, now 8, chained at the waist in a home owned by Bess. She weighed 32 pounds. She is in foster care.
Bess’ daughter, Cynthia Topper, pleaded guilty to child abuse and has been sentenced to six years.
