German film producer and distributor Internationalmedia said Wednesday it would set up a music division with offices in Los Angeles and London to produce soundtracks for feature films.

“The goal is to produce better soundtracks which we can market as such. Soundtracks are very profitable because their advertising is part of the advertising for the movie, it costs nothing extra,” Chief Executive Florian Bollen said.

Internationalmedia said Bill Curbishley, former manager of the Who band, and Joel Sill, former vice president of music for Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures, would join the new unit.

Bollen said it was impossible to give sales and earnings forecasts for the new unit due to its volatile nature.

“It is difficult to make any sales expectations because the unit will be very hit-driven. It will contribute to sales as of next year,” he said.

Shares of Internationalmedia gained 1% to 32.80 euros after reaching a high of 34 euros.
