Hillside Preservation to Be Discussed
Oxnard attorney Richard Francis, a co-author of Ventura’s successful SOAR growth-control measure, will speak at the next Ventura Citizens for Hillside Preservation meeting Thursday.
Francis will discuss actions residents can take to preserve the 5,000 acres of rugged hillside bordering Ventura between City Hall and Kimball Road.
Four family-run corporations that own the land are proposing as many as 1,900 homes for the area, with 80% of the property devoted to open space and public trails. Under a proposal by Mayor Sandy Smith, a measure on November’s ballot would determine whether a public vote is needed before the city provides water, sewer and other urban services to the area.
The group’s meeting will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church, Parish Hall, 3290 Loma Vista Road, in Ventura.
