‘June Gloom’ Expected to Take Brief Hiatus
A ridge of high pressure is expected to park briefly over Southern California today, sweeping away the dank, gloomy weather typical at this time of year and pushing temperatures up to record levels in some of the inland valleys and deserts.
Sunny skies and thermometer readings at or above 100 degrees are expected today in Lancaster, Hemet and San Bernardino, with temperatures in the 90s in Thousand Oaks, Pasadena and Ontario.
The onshore flow of foggy marine air in late May and early June will keep things cooler in coastal communities, with top readings in the 70s in Santa Barbara, Santa Monica and San Juan Capistrano.
In downtown Los Angeles, the morning cloudiness should burn off before noon, with a high temperature of 81.
Forecasters said the ridge of high pressure should break down Friday, ushering in a first-of-the-month return of “June gloom.” Cooler temperatures are expected through the weekend.
