C. Bernard Jackson was the type of man who made a mark on the city. And Sunday, the city will mark the place where Jackson, the co-founder of the Inner City Cultural Center, did his work. The Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department will dedicate the corner of Pico Boulevard and New Hampshire Avenue as C. Bernard Jackson Square, a spot that was the birthplace of the ICCC. The Los Angeles of artists’ wild imaginations and keen observations is on view in “Representing LA: Pictorial Currents in Contemporary Southern California Art,” a large exhibition of representational art opening Sunday at the Laguna Art Museum. Dramatically lighted urban scenes by Lauren Richardson and James Doolin bump up against film-related images by Christian Vincent, a painted elegy about the 1992 riots by John Nava and portraits by Salomon Huerta.* “Representing LA: Pictorial Currents in Contemporary Southern California Art,” Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach.
