Dajuan Wagner had 18 points and four assists in his college debut to lead No. 12 Memphis to an 88-61 victory over Wofford in the opening round of the inaugural Guardian’s Classic at Memphis, Tenn.

Wagner, a heralded freshman who scored 100 points in a high school game and the son of former Louisville star Milt Wagner, missed his first five shots from the field, but finished six of 17. He missed all four of his three-point attempts.

In other Guardian’s Classic games: Kareem Rush scored 28 points as No. 8 Missouri opened the season with a sloppy 89-63 victory over Tennessee-Martin at Columbia, Mo. ... Reggie Evans matched his career high with 30 points and No. 9 Iowa responded to Coach Steve Alford’s first-half tirade with a 20-3 run, sending the Hawkeyes to an 89-59 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore at Iowa City, Iowa. ... Rod Grizzard scored 22 points and No. 24 Alabama led by as many as 46 points in a 107-67 victory over Mississippi Valley State at Tuscaloosa, Ala.
