Pistons Put Brakes on Mavericks

Jerry Stackhouse had 28 points and eight rebounds, and Cliff Robinson added 24 points to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 115-89 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night at Auburn Hills, Mich.

Robinson also helped limit Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki to three-for-14 shooting and 10 points and held the Mavericks to 40.7% from the floor.

Detroit won for the fifth time in six games, avenging a season-opening loss to the Mavericks. The Pistons finished with a season-high in points and had 31 assists.

Portland 101, Memphis 85--Rasheed Wallace scored 27 points at Memphis, Tenn., to hand Grizzlies their franchise-record eighth consecutive loss to open the season.

New York 83, Miami 74--Allan Houston scored 17 points, Latrell Sprewell added 16 and the Knicks blew a big early lead before shutting down the Heat in the fourth quarter at New York.

Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning, struggling to recover from food poisoning that sidelined him last week, will miss at least three more games. Heat forward Brian Grant will miss at least five games with a bone bruise to his right instep. ... Memphis guard Michael Dickerson will miss at least a month because of a stress fracture near his groin.
